Junior Team Tennis is one of many significant programs the Southern California Tennis Association (SCTA) is offering to kids in all of its areas. Hundreds of kids are playing on league teams in many different divisions throughout a season, all competing for a spot in Championships. The division winners of the 2011 Spring Season League came together for their Section Championships at Cal State Northridge June 11 and 12. More than 300 kids of all ages competed in a fun event run by SCTA’s new Team Tennis Coordinator Ken Grassel.
Throughout the 2011 Spring Season competition was fierce amongst the teams and some of the regulations are designed to enhance the fun experience for everyone, such as
- 10 and Under Intermediate and Advanced teams, and 14 and Under Satellite and Advanced teams are gender blind. Boys can play girls in singles and doubles.
- 14 and Under Advanced and Satellite Team Section Championship winners qualify for national competition.
- Depending on the division, kids play either 6-game of 8-game pro-sets. Only the 18 and Under division teams play Best 2 of 3 Sets.
The lucky division winners proudly displayed their team colors last weekend, and team names such as Fireballers, Sunshine Aces, CoConut Strokers, Arcadia Dragons, and Control Beasts added to the fun.
