2011 SCTA Endorsement Requirements for National Events
The SCTA must select (endorse) players to attend USTA National Championship events and/or USTA Zone Team Championships. Only the top ranked players in their divisions are eligible to play in the USTA National Championships and Zone Team Championships. To be considered for placement on the SCTA endorsement list to possibly compete in one of these Championships, a player must meet the general endorsement policies and the endorsement requirements.
SCTA ENDORSEMENT PROCESS
Once a player has met the tournament requirements for endorsement, he or she must make sure that he/she have met the General Policy and Procedure for Endorsement, which includes having a copy of their birth certificate on file with the SCTA. The SCTA will mail to the top 30 endorsed players and post the entire SCTA Endorsement List on the appropriate tournament home page (under selection process) approximately 7 days prior to the entry deadline for the respective National Championship. If you do not notice your name on the list and you feel you have met the requirements, please contact the SCTA office immediately. It is not the responsibility of the Sectional Endorser to contact players to remind them about deadline dates for tournament entry
applications.
GENERAL POLICY AND PROCEDURE FOR ENDORSEMENT
1. Personal behavior and good sportsmanship shall be important factors for endorsement. Players who have exhibited a pattern of poor sportsmanship on or off the court may be refused endorsement to participate in either the USTA National Championship tournaments or USTA Zone Team Championships.
2. All tournaments must be played to completion in order to count for endorsement. This includes any consolation or playoff matches in the tournament.
3. Players will receive credit for endorsement in the division in which they participated in, as well as all lower age divisions in which they are age eligible for (THIS APPLIES TO USTA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS ONLY, NOT ZONE TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS). The player must appear as an "eligible" player on each specific division’s standing list in order to receive endorsement credit. The player must also appear inside the top 150 of the standing list used for endorsement in order to receive lower division endorsement credit. Players who meet their endorsement requirements for lower age division(s) due to their participation in higher age divisions are not eligible to be in positions 1-15 of the SCTA endorsement list (for National Championship draws of 128) or positions 1-20 of the SCTA endorsement list (for National Championship draws of 192) for any lower age divisions endorsement lists. For example, in regards to Winter National Championship endorsement, a player who participates to completion in 4 designated tournaments in the Girls 18’s division by November 15th will also be placed on the Girls 16’s (and any other lower division) endorsement list provided they meet the above criteria for eligibility. If the player has not met the participation requirements for the Girls 16’s, they will be placed in the order of their Girls 16’s standing and can not be higher than #16.
4. To be eligible for endorsement, a player must have a current USTA membership number on file with the SCTA, as well as a copy of the player’s birth certificate.
5. Only those juniors who 'permanently" reside within the geographical area of the Southern California Tennis Association and who, in addition, must be American Citizens or Resident Aliens in possession of a valid Alien Registration Card, may apply for SCTA endorsement. In order to be classified as a "permanent" resident, a player's parent or legal guardian must legally reside in Southern California. The Sectional Endorsement Committee reserves the right to ask any player, parent or legal guardian to furnish proof of residence, even though the junior may be holding a valid USTA card with SCTA designation.
6. Juniors who represent another country in any ITF junior, open or any other ITF sanctioned tournament will NOT be eligible to participate in the SCTA Sectional Championships, USTA Zone Team Championships, USTA National Championship tournaments or any other USTA event requiring SCTA endorsement in the calendar year in which they represented the foreign country, as well as the following calendar year. If a player wishes to challenge this rule, the player may appeal to the SCTA Junior Tennis Council. If the appeal is unsuccessful, the player may follow the steps outlined
under USTA Reinstatement of Eligibility listed in the USTA Friend At Court publication.
7. USTA National Opens and Regional Tournaments do not require sectional endorsement. Entry applications for these events should be obtained by checking the appropriate tournament website on www.usta.com. The USTA no longer publishes a National Junior Schedule booklet. Please go to www.scta.usta.com under juniors to access the link for this.
8. The SCTA Junior Tennis Council reserves the right to change endorsement requirements at any time.
