Led by two-time Ojai Boys’ CIF winner Gage Brymer, University High is the top-seeded CIF-Southern Section Division I team in this year’s playoffs currently being contested.
University, the No. 1 team from the Pacific Coast League, beat wild-card Redondo Union 17-1 in the first round. Corona Del Mar, Santa Barbara, Palos Verdes and Calabasas are the other top teams that will vie for this year’s title.
All five of the divisions’ finals will take place on Wednesday, May 30, at the Claremont Club in Claremont.
At Ojai, Brymer became just the fourth two-time singles champion in the 112-year history of the famed tournament by winning 12 straight sets against six of the best high school tennis in SoCal.
In Division II Palm Desert High (Desert Valley League No. 1) is the No. 1 seeded team; In Division III it’s Placentia Valencia (Empire League No. 1) and in Division IV the top team is Viewpoint (Liberty No. 1). In Division V, Arlington High (Inland Valley No. 1) will be the team to beat.
